A client entered our shelter after surviving a gang rape in another county. Due to complex of needs she has from substance abuse, mental disabilities, head trauma, frequent seizures and a lifetime of abuse, we advocated that she be accepted into a wrap around program of services in the county because no one agency could care for the complex of her needs. Though she didn’t quality at first, through our advocacy, the case manager of the program is working with her and us to get her qualified for their services and is ensuring that she received the most critical services. For the first time in over a year, she currently is stable in housing with a part time job and is getting therapy, medical services and assistance in qualifying for permanent disability.
